Story behind the song
This is a song I wrote many years ago. It can be viewed as the tale of a guy who got hit in the eye when a door unexpectedly opened. So one of his blue eyes are now black. OR, it can be viewed as a tale of a blue-eyed guy that is thrust into a world were he now has to look through the eyes of someone who has become part of the black community (for any number of reasons, marriage, adoption, etc.). Listen to the song twice, each time taking one view; it's quite interesting how the same words can mean totally different things in a different context.
Lyrics
Black eye look at me, what do you see? Black eye are your sore, are things like before? The world still looks the same through my black eye as my blue one. Why must we play this game when what we need is a new one. Black eye look at me, what do you see? Black eye are your sore, are things like before? With one eye to the darkness, the other to the blue. We must try for progress, try to change you. Black eye look at me, what do you see? Black eye are your sore, are things like before? Maybe the answer we're looking for has already happened for me. The way I opened the door, a black eye set me free. Black eye look at me, what do you see? Black eye are your sore, are things like before? Black eye look at me, black eye are you sore? Black eye look at me, black eye are you sore?
