Story behind the song
We were going to an old country church and had a field mouse that came out of his hiding place just about every service. he piano player was terrified of mice and each time she saw the mouse she'd hit some sour notes and make a little gasp sound.

The Church Mouse It was a typical Sunday morning, Sunday school was over and done The preacher stood ready in the pulpit and the bell had already been rung. The congregation was singing one of those old time gospel tunes When from out of nowhere, there appeared, a little mouse in the room The piano player, she let out one of those ear shattering screams Then she played some notes on that piano they sounded so downright mean They sounded a little like rhythm and blues with a touch of old time rock and roll And when she jumped upon the piano we were worried about this soul The song leader kept right on singing and not one note was missed She thought now we’ve done this song before, but we never had done it like this Then she looked up and saw the piano player and it was really hard to believe The worst shock was when, she turned around and then saw the deacons on their hands and knees They were crawling around under the pews in and out of the aisles Then they all stopped, and stood up, and they looked around a while Then they saw that mouse and it was running fast and went out of the door first And that’s how it was, the morning when, a mouse came to our church. Yeah now that’s how it was, the morning when, a mouse came to our church.
