Story behind the song
This was written after a trip to a Russian Orphanage with a UK based charity called Love Russia. It was an experience that really changed me and I wrote "The Dance" in order to share a tiny fraction of that.
Lyrics
The Dance
Seven hours from Moscow
Out of sight, not out of mind
We came travelling down your back roads
We came looking there to find
Our treasures in the darkness
All our riches in the dirt
To tell you stories of a wise man
That can take away your hurt
We came to put a smile upon your face
We came to show a wise mans touch of grace
We came to meet you in your circumstance
And we came to join the dance
Well when we finally got there
Gates once shut were opened wide
All opposition melted
As we took our steps inside
When we looked into your bright eyes
We saw hope and not despair
We were the richest people
You made us feel like millionaires
We came to put a smile upon your face
We came to show a wise mans touch of grace
We came to meet you in your circumstance
And we came to join the dance
We were going round in circles
Arm in arm and hand in hand
No difference there between us
As we proudly took our stand
May the dance go on forever
May the circle never end
And don’t let any politician
Ever stop us being friends
And it was you who put a smile upon our face
It was you who showed the wise man’s touch of grace
It was you that met us in our circumstance
And it was you who invited us to dance
It was you who invited us to dance
It was you who invited us to dance
