Story behind the song

This is taken from a session recorded at Backstage Studios on Canvey Island that I’d been invited to by my old mate Michael Glover. At that time Mike was playing drums for two guys I’d never met before, Phil Smith and Kevin ‘Clem’ Clements, and they’d been working on some original material.

Phil played his Telecaster and sang the lead vocals, Clem played what looked like a home-made bass brilliantly (I honestly don’t know how he did it as I had a go and couldn’t even play a short phrase with all the notes in tune) and sang backing vocals, I played my Lake Placid Blue Stratocaster and Mike battered his kit into submission as usual (he’s one of the loudest drummers on the planet when he wants to be!).

Unfortunately, this was the only time I ever got to play with this band as I moved away shortly after. It was also the first time I’d played the songs, including “She Don't Care About Time” which I’d never even heard before (shame on me).

We’d played through most of their stuff at least twice and then Phil stuck this cover version in to add some variety. The band ran through the song once with me struggling along trying to get some nice chiming harmonies going while Phil called out the changes and then, away we went straight into the janglemungous, poptastic version included here.
