Story behind the song
A song written to convey the wretchedness, yet thankfulness, I and countless others feel at the communion table. We need to focus on the cross in our lives and songs far more. The second line of the bridge alludes to the fact Jesus said he was “The Bread Of Life” and that we need to feed on him to satisfy our spiritual hunger. At the cross feeding from Jesus each one of us should be full of gratitude for what Jesus did upon that instrument of execution.
Lyrics
At The Foot of The Cross
Chorus
At the foot of your cross
I kneel before you now
Feeling guilty
Full of sin
Yet you accept me anyhow
Verse 1
When I look on your cross I see forgiveness
When I look on your cross I see your grace
As I look on your cross I'm lost in wonder
That Jesus Christ you'd would take my place
Chorus Repeat
Verse 2
When I look on your cross I see the nails
When I look on your cross I see my shame
As I look on your cross I am so thankful
That on your hands you bear my name
Bridge
And I owe my very life to you
When I hunger you're my food
As I give my heart and soul to you
I'm consumed with gratitude
Chorus
At the foot of your cross
I kneel before you now
Feeling guilty
Full of sin
Yet you accept me anyhow
