Story behind the song
I actually wrote this song before I had any children, but I realized the value of my real father and my Heavenly Father.
Lyrics
Daddy's Arms Sleep my child sleep, rest here by my side You've found a place away from harm, a place where love abides And I see you lying here with not a worry or a fear You are safe and warm from all the world as you rest Here in your daddy's arms Oh please forgive me child, I've failed to hold you tight A moment that my back was turned you drifted from my side And now alone, you've fallen down, your pain bears the alarm: You're not protected from the world When you're outside of daddy's arms Daddy's arms are kind and gentle as they reach out to you You know that when you're hurting they say I am hurting too My constant understanding you may never comprehend But safe and warm in daddy's arms, you know you've got a friend Mere babes in Christ, God sees us, clinging to His side Our Father holds us close to Him where safely we abide But as we grow we tend to pull away and lose our hold Our Father reaches out to us, still, we neglect what we are told Somehow, though, His voice keeps calling us back to His side With a promise of His love and care as His arms are open wide And nothing is so clear now, as our soul He quickly charms: Though scars may show we've been away Now we can rest here in our Father's arms Our Father's arms are kind and gentle as they reach out to you You know that when you're hurting they say He is hurting too His constant understanding you may never comprehend But safe and warm in our Father's arms, you know you've got a friend
