Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
And... another episode from an imaginary love affair. Happily married for over 30 years, I don't know where these come from. Perhaps it's the old subconscious playing "what if..." In case you've had enough of songs with a droning open B string going through all the chords, this one has droning open G string going through all the chords. My plan is to work my way down all the strings til I find one that sounds OK. Or learn to play chords that use more than 2 fingers.
Lyrics
Hey, how are you? It's been quite a while And you're looking okay Well actually you're looking… And how is…? Is he still the same? Do you think you might have been wrong? I know sometimes I think I was Yes she's fine thanks Well sometimes she is a bit… And she's not you And that might be the problem Oh you could be Katherine I could be anything you like And we could pretend for an hour or two That everything's still alright Oh I could be David You could have any little thing that your heart desires And we could pretend for a little while That everything's still alright I guess we made our choices And we can't go back It's for the best It's probably for the best Look, the past is dead and buried And the future is all mapped out But we can make believe for a little while That the barricades are down We cut our lives into pieces Wrap and seal them So they can be packed away into boxes To take out and look at now and then

I thought I'd already commented on this, but I... Too brilliant to merely call 'brilliant'.

The intro is so amazing! Your guitar work is some of the best I know of on SC. So much power and feeling! This is another example of why I love your stuff so much: Wicked guitar work, great vocals and thoughtful lyrics. That idea of just pretending for a few hours and also what we maybe should have done different in the past... Been there... :)

Great punch and presence in the chords and rhythm track making a perfect bed for the vocals as they go from deadpan to urgent emotion. Brilliant!

Brilliantly written lyrics and superb job on the vocals. Love the guitar work, the whole song works so perfectly on every level. When I hear works by signed artists who are supposed to be top class songwriters, I can't help feeling that you always out-class them by 100%...and then some.

Cool intro. You've got a great voice Steve - always enjoy your vocal work, and your guitar work and tone is always first class! This is awesome track with a super rhythm track - nice (and I got the 1st review)!
