It's always the Girl. A little piece of happy Telecaster madness.

Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
Bit of a cheat for the CBC Paddy's Day challenge this one - it was already recorded and also it doesn't really have any kind of Irish theme at all, but I thought maybe it SOUNDED a bit Irish.... ish. I didn't think I'd finish a tune in time so I put this one up just in case. But thought I'd leave it in anyway. Thanks Jude for allowing it in.
Lyrics
Look at my life, I said (Though no-one was listening) Everything tabulated And set to precision I played at being content Just to dodge the admission That despite all I said Something was missing And then the girl Looks my way And my world turns upside down Everything that mattered Was of less importance now Then the girl made everything right Like someone turned on the light First there was the darkness And then the girl I had my boat, you see A fourteen foot sailing beauty My pride and joy But sailing failed absolutely You see you can say you're the captain And think you're really great But you can't play Swallows and Amazons Without the captain's mate And then the girl Took her shoes off And climbed in next to me Everything was perfect Just the way that it should be Banking at full sail As she leaned out from the rail First I was becalmed And then the girl

As long as i was on your page, thought i'd drop in on this ..again..and was surprised to see i hadn't commented since i have listened to this about 10 times. I wander genres alot, but never tried punk. You got it in your pocket. This is as good a punk song as i have ever heard. The dynamics are great and the energy comes off in sparks. If not a real drummer, it's genius programming. Excellent work!!

Seriously, this is another GREAT tune which has your always super vocal along with the guits/drums/etc. of the Backing. And your ending is so FANTASTICALLY EXCITING that I have to ask again, CAN I GO SAILING WITH YOU??? Popeye The Sailor Man Bob (liken' both the song and the tune's pic - ha)

Perfect in every way - no beating stuff like this. Big sound, very powerful track with a real kick to it. Great vocals and guitar work....and those drums, sensational!! Don't leave this one sitting in your recording studio...get it off to a publisher or licensing company!

This is absolutely brilliant! It has that trashy rock sound like Green Day's "Basket case". The playing, production and vocals are class A material and this could have been on any top selling rock CD in the early 90's. Super job, again, Steve. And yes, it is a bit Irish-ish, not much but a bit...-ish :)
